For at fastholde det generelt høje niveau af dyrevelfærd er der til stadighed behov for at optimere håndteringen på slagtedagen. Hangrise udviser en mere aggressiv adfærd, og der er behov for at optimere håndteringen, så værdiforringelser i form af fx sværskader og muskelblødninger minimeres. Til brug for optimeringen er værktøjer, der hjælper slagterierne til en løbende registrering af dyrevelfærdsniveauet, relevante.
Det overordnede formål med projektet er at optimere håndteringen af slagtesvin fra udlevering til stikning, så dyrevelfærden forbedres. De konkrete mål er at reducere forekomsten af punktformige muskelblødninger, effektivisere håndtering af slagtesvin ved hjælp af et IKT-baseret værktøj og endelig at optimere håndtering af hangrise på slagtedagen med henblik på at reducere forekomsten af skader.
